Welsh Corgi Pembroke

The homeland of this breed is South Wales. Two varieties of it are known - pembroke and cardigan welsh corgi. They are possibly descendants of Viking dogs. They gained popularity thanks to Queen Elizabeth who is a great lover of them. She keeps them in the palace and royal parks.

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is a very old variation of the Shepherd Dog. They used to herd sheep and cattle while barking loudly. Currently, they are primarily companion dogs. But they also exterminate rats and mice, herd cattle and guard their belongings. They are very friendly and energetic. Pembroke Welsh Corgi are short-legged, with a fox-like build.

The height at the withers of dogs is 25-30 cm, their weight is 10-12 kg; female dogs weigh 9-11 kg. The life expectancy of this breed ranges from 12 to 15 years.

  • Coat

The dog of this breed has medium-length hair, an abundant topcoat and a hard, thick undercoat. Its hair must not be soft.

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is easy to care for. It is enough for it to brush its fur once a week. It is a bit more difficult twice a year when shedding but the hair is easy to clean. Our pet can also cause problems after a walk, because it can carry sand and mud on its paws, and leaves or grass on the hair. Then you have to remove everything from the hair and wipe the paws with a damp cloth.

Welsh Corgi Pembroke - health

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is generally one of the healthiest breeds, resistant to harsh weather conditions. Very rarely, they may experience "adolescent lameness", which, however, usually does not require treatment and disappears with the age of your pet.

Welsh Corgi Pembroke - nutrition

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke are dogs that have a really big appetite and can eat literally anything. Therefore, you need to be careful what you feed your pet with. Try not to overfeed it to avoid being overweight. The easiest way is to give it ready-made food, twice a day, high in vitamins, adapted to its age. Choose those with a high meat content and without grains and chemical preservatives. The food can be supplemented with appropriate supplements if you decide to feed your pet with raw meat. More and more people are switching to this nutritional model and following the Barf diet. This diet is based on unprocessed, raw animal products - meat, eggs, offal, fat, meat bones, and 5% of vegetables and fruit. Unfortunately, the downside of this diet, for some people, is that we have to prepare and balance each meal on our own. Therefore, before you start using this type of nutrition, it is worth expanding your knowledge in this topic.
