A Visit to Ku Owcom FCI Breeding Kennel
The Polish Tatra Sheepdog breeding kennel "Ku Owcom FCI" was the next destination for the Look4dog.com team. On a Saturday afternoon, we visited the beautiful areas around Kraków, where Mrs. Agnieszka and her husband have been breeding their "Tatras" for several years. We learned about the kennel's history, met beautiful dogs and visited the newly born litter "P" at "Ku Owcom". Here is a brief report and photos of the dogs.
The beginning of the adventure with the "Tatras"
It all started when Mrs. Agnieszka decided to have a devoted, very intelligent and independently thinking dog by her side. The choice fell on the first group according to FCI breed classification - sheepdogs. Additionally, the dog had to have specific "dimensions", so the decision was made that it would be a Polish Tatra Sheepdog. And so, 10 years ago, a small, white fluffy bitch named Arika entered the home of Mrs. Agnieszka. As it later turned out, Arika was born in a breeding kennel not affiliated with ZKwP. We discussed this type of kennel at length and came to the conclusion that even now it is very easy to be deceived and encounter people who very strongly want to convince the buyer that their puppies come from a kennel affiliated with the FCI association. All the more so, the action plan and development of the Look4dog.com search engine, presented by us, was very much appreciated by the "Ku Owcom FCI" kennel.

The first breeding bitch - Figa z makiem Las w Jamnicach FCI
During her studies in animal science, Mrs. Agnieszka deepened her knowledge on topics related to breeding and animals. After years of study, Mrs. Agnieszka together with her husband decided to become a breeder of a Polish breed, so they stayed with the Polish Tatra Sheepdog. As is usually the case, the beginnings are neither easy nor simple. A bitch was reserved by them from one of the kennels of this breed. Unfortunately, bad luck had it that in this long-awaited mating, no bitch was born in the litter. Mrs. Agnieszka continued searching and chose the Las w Jamnicach kennel from where they returned home with a beautiful bitch named Figa z makiem Las w Jamnicach. The bitch acquired breeding rights and had her first litter over a year ago. Mrs. Agnieszka repeated the same mating and currently the kennel has a litter that is two weeks old. It produced 4 male puppies and 3 female puppies. After raising the current litter, the bitch will have a two-year break.
The Philosophy of Ku Owcom FCI Breeding Kennel
Mrs. Agnieszka wants to run her kennel so that her bitches have 3 - 4 litters during their lifetime. She also places great emphasis on early socialisation of the puppies. They stay in the house together with their mother in a specially made pen and have contact with children and the whole family.
When the puppies grow up, Mrs. Agnieszka takes them to her children's preschool, thanks to which the preschoolers learn many interesting things about this breed, dog care and how to treat them properly. For the puppies, this is also socialisation. The breeder also takes them to the city, parks, so they can familiarise themselves with the world around them. If the future owner has special requirements and informs the breeder that they have cats at home or will be driving a lot, then the puppy is accustomed to this. In Mrs. Agnieszka's home, apart from Polish Tatra Sheepdogs, there are also two guinea pigs and a cat. The dogs in the kennel participate in shows, which they win. They are also tested for hip dysplasia.
